Why can guests not access Routemap integration

Silas Böcher July 31, 2024

[edit] Guests can now see boards but not edit them. I'm currently talking to the developers, if editing will be supported in the future.

#We ran into an issue with the Routemap integration, when it comes to guest users. The integration shows an error 'Something went wrong' when loading the page as guest:

This is how it looks for a normal user with sufficient rights:

Board settings appear to not change this. If I select a specific group, that the guest user is in, or have it on public doesn't seem to make a difference:

I am using a test-guest-user to verify this behavior. Said test user has all rights for this space, and explicit rights to edit the DEMO page:

Other integrations like draw.io work just fine.

Confluence is the only Atlassian product we are using.

I was unable to find anything about licensing or guest users in their documentation.

Any ideas on this behavior are appreciated!

After talking to the development Team, this issue has been fixed.

Guests can only see boards, not edit them. This feature has been opened as an internal Ticket for development.

Hi @Silas Böcher and welcome to the Community

Guests can only access one single space and ONLY the resources native to that space.

For example. I have an app (Comala Publishing) that syncs content from Space A to Space B.

A guest in Space A can use the app... but as they don't have permissions to see Space B, the app won't do anything.

I believe that guest status over-rides group membership as the group membership would grant a guest permissions to which they're not entitled.

Hello @Kristian Klima,

thanks for the quick answer and warm welcome!

I don't quite understand what you mean by resources nativ to a space. As far as I understand it, these integration boards are not saved inside the space itself. If that's the case, draw.io and Miro integrations should also not be able to be seen by a guest, but they are.

Would there be any way to make the roadmap board accessible for guests?

I see.

Is your Roadmaps boards are a Jira affair? As you write that 'these boards are not saved inside the case' I presume that is the case.

What about Draw.io and Miro? Are these Jira or Confluence apps?

Or non-guests users able to see the roadmaps?

Silas Böcher August 1, 2024

We only use Confluence, so it's not linked to Jira. I was actually wondering where exactly these Routemap / Miro / draw.io boards are saved.

I just tested it with the guest user and was able to do /routemap to access the integration. When it opens after inserting it, i get the same error message 'Something went wrong'

I tested it with one of my guests in the space.

I inserted the Roadmap planner macro, save the page, and the guest reported they saw the schema on the page.

The guest has access to the space (obviously) but they're rather limited - can only View, Comment, and Add attachments.

I just noticed, there was a mistake in my Title. I am not talking about the Roadmap Macro from confluence, but a Routemap integration: Roadmaps, Timeline, Kanban & Gantt Chart for Confluence | Atlassian Marketplace

As I opened this Thread via the support page on the marketplace, I was convinced there is a big pointer for other people here, what integration I'm talking about. It seems to only be added as a tag however.

Sorry for the confusion!

That's OK - I'd get in touch with their support as clearly something's outside of the scope that a guests can/should access.

Silas Böcher August 1, 2024

Thanks for the support, I'll get in touch with their support!

Is there any way to close this thread as 'on hold' or something like that? If I get an answer from their support, I'd like to post it here. Or would this not be the right place to put it?

I think you can edit the original Question and put smth like ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE :)
