Why can't I create hyperlinks that open in a new tab or window??

I've searched help, and community, and its confusing, as the threads are gfetting too techical for me, but why the heck can't you open a link in a new tab???

This is BASIC web-based functionality isn't it?

Why would YOU (atlassian) want your customers to be taken away from your product when they click a link?

@Christine Hurst Welcome to the Atlassian community

You should vote for this functionality here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65558   My guess that this is not a huge deal as most individuals are navigating in the application and if there is an external link they just open it in a new tab by middle click on the mouse or right clicking and selecting it.
