Why is Indent for bulleted lists greyed out?

When I finally found the in-out dent menu (for some reason now hidden in the bullet menu!?!) I see it's greyed out. Why?

It's a basic page - I've got a numbered list and I'd like to indent the bulleted list of details below.

Hello @Sherilyn Swan

First, you can easily outdent and indent using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys respectively.

Second, there are natural limits over where and what you can oud/indent.

For example,

  • you cannot indent (move left) a first-level bullet/number list
  • as this one
  • as it's already in its basic position and cannot be moved left
    • it can be moved right/outdent by the Tab key.
To create a non-bulleted paragragh like this, just hit Shift+Enter at the end of the previous line (so calld soft return or soft enter.
    • Your list can then continue
  • This is logical - just as you cannot indent the basic paragraph, as there's no place on the lft, you cannot move the basic, first level, bullet list.

If you want to use use bullets or their equivalent in line with a regular paragrah

- you can use a simple dash
- followed by a series of soft-returned lines
- like this

Hope it helps :)

@Sherilyn Swan In addition to the info from @Kristian Klima, I will add that, when your upper-level list is numbered and you want your next-level list to be bulleted, you need to:

  1. Enter item 1
  2. Enter item 2 then press Enter to get item 3
    1. Press Tab or the indent icon on the toolbar—you get a numbered item (1 or a or i) for this level
    2. Select the Bulleted list icon on the toolbar to change this level to a bulleted list
