"Ouch! We can't load the PDF" error message when uploading to Confluence

Wayne Cochran September 20, 2017

A PDF fails to upload under Safari and Chrome. Loaded another PDF successfully earlier. Never had a problem with PDF anywhere else. I can send you the PDF if you tell me where to put it.

I get "Error connecting to sever" at end of upload -- it seems like its there, but I get the "Ouch" message when I try to look at.

Has the problem already been solved? I have the same problem and it is quite annoying. No matter if old or newly uploaded PDFs, the error message appears again and again. I work with Firefox, but have also tried other browsers. Refreshing the page does not work. The Confluence version is 6.15.6.

This just happened to me too (Chrome browser) after adding PDF files using the drag and drop function.

I searched online but couldn't any solutions - hence posting my workaround...... Refreshing the page seems to fix it for me.

Hi Wayne,

I moved your thread to a new question so we could work on it independently.

Please let me know:

  • What version of Confluence you are seeing the behavior on.
  • Any log messages that are generated when the PDF is uploaded. The atlassian-confluence.log is in the logs subdirectory of Confluence Home.
  • Can you upload other .pdf files?
  • Do other image files also cause an error, .png, .jpg, etc?

I look forward to hearing more about the issue.

Thanks,

Ann
