table of content macro not reading headings even after publishing

Djahari Clark July 20, 2020

Hello,

I embedded the Table of Contents macro into my home page, and asked it to read Headings 1 & 2, but even after publishing the page nothing is showing up. I have many pages with headings 1 & 2 in this space, but nothing is showing up.  I've also tried making new pages to see if there is something wrong with my old pages and the new editor, but the new pages don't show up either. Any help is appreciated. I am new to navigating Confluence and am trying to organize our spaces. I've been following all the "how to" guides, but cannot figure out why this isn't working.

Thanks,

Djahari

Hello @Djahari Clark !

As I understand, you need to show both level 1 and level 2 headings within the Table of Contents macro.

With this objective in mind, I tried to replicate the behavior you explained. After trying, I was ultimately unable to replicate it.

The Table of Contents macro does display the desired headings within my page. Here is what it looks like, in both New and Legacy editor:

Here is the full documentation for the macro:

The objective of the Table of Contents macro is to display headings from the page in which the macro has been placed.

If you need to display headings from another page inside another, you will need to do the following:

  1. Create a page with Headings
  2. Insert the Excerpt macro
  3. Insert the Table of Contents macro inside the Excerpt Macro
  4. Set the Table of Contents macro to use Absolute URL (this setting is right at the end of the settings list)
  5. Publish the page
  6. Create a new page
  7. Insert the Excerpt Include macro
  8. Select the previously created page in the Excerpt Include macro settings
  9. Publish the page
