using Request access to view restricted pages

Karl Daly December 10, 2013

Hi Everyone, I'm trying to use Request access to view restricted pages,as described in the link below.

https://blogs.atlassian.com/2013/09/new-in-confluence-request-access-to-view-restricted-pages/

my aim is to just share a page with a user who does'nt have access to this page(Space). I've been trying to use the above but when i share the page all they get is the 'Page Not Found' . The request access/ grant access option do not appear in the e-mail to either user or on the page in question.

Can anyone shead any light on this ?

Thanks in advance .

Karl.

What version of Confluence are you using? This feature is only supported in Confluence 5.3+ and OnDemand.

Hi Aseem,

We are using confluence 5.3.4

I found some info for you that the blog fails to mention.

If the request access message does not appear, you are not able to request access for that particular page. This usually is because the page has inherited restrictions from a parent page, or you may not have adequate space permissions.

Sorry Karl, I wish I had better news for you. Atlassian may consider this an enhancement or new feature if you raise an issue.

Thanks Aseem for your time on this matter.

Hi everyone,

A quick note to let you know that in Confluence 6.8 we've improved how request access works under the hood.  When a user requests access to a restricted page, Confluence will send an email to up to 5 people. It chooses people in the following order:

  1. people who have contributed to the page in the past, can see the page and have 'Restrict' or 'Admin' space permission (sorted by last edit date)
  2. space administrators who can see the page (sorted alphabetically).

This means that the request should be actioned quickly, as it prioritizes the people who have been interacting with the page most recently.

Does this mean 5 emails will go out?  We have a few pages which we'd like to turn off notifications for access request- will that be configurable in the newest version?

thanks in advance!

Hi Linda,

Yes, up to 5 emails will be sent for each request to access. When we previously sent a single email, there was a high chance that the request wouldn't be actioned (someone is on leave, or doesn't always check their email notifications).

As far as I'm aware, there are no plans to make this feature configurable on a page by page, or space by space basis.

If it is a big issue in your org, you can disable the feature for your entire site by heading to cog > Add-ons  and disabling the Confluence Request Access Plugin

Hope this helps

Has this option to disable Access Requests vanished since this last post?

Hi Everyone

I'm having issues with the Request Access / Grant Access feature.

A user requests access to a page that is restricted. The last editor of that page gets an email notification to choose to Grant Access to that user. The editor clicks grant access to get taken to the restricted page.

The user will then check to that same restricted page later, and still find the request access page appears.

It wasn't doing this before. Not sure if there's a bug or conflict. Our confluence version is 5.6.4.

Cheers,
