watchers are being auto added in Confluence

hi all,

users of Confluence 5.10 server. Our JIRA 7.3 is integrated with Confluence.

Confluence is using JIRA server as user directory.

some users are receiving notifications because they are the watchers of the page/space but the problem is that they have never added themselves as watchers.

Is there a feature which is adding users automatically to pages ? If so, as an Admin how can remove this feature and let users add watchers manually?

thanks !

Hi,

I think, your users are "autowatching" the content they created or changed. They can turn off autowatching here:

http://<your-confluence-url>/users/viewmyemailsettings.action

Your user have to change this setting on their own. A global setting will not be implemented, as you can see here:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-22070

There's a new issue here:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-39970

Maybe you want to vote for it.

thanks Tom

but these users do not have any activity so far.. they logged in for the first time to edit the settings. How are they being added as auto watchers to the spaces ?

I see significant number of users are in watchers list ( who haven't even logged in yet but have access).

how is this possible ? the 1 logic I can think is these users might have worked/commented/reported/assigned to the issues in the linked JIRA project.
