Custom templates now available in Jira Enterprise

Hi Jira Community,

I’m excited to announce that custom business and software project templates for both team-managed and company-managed projects are now available in Jira Enterprise!

This means that as an admin, you’ll be able to create custom Jira templates that reflect how your teams are using Jira today and help scale your unique ways of working across your organization. And for anyone looking for even more customization, we’ve also launched a new Create Custom Project API for Jira Enterprise customers that enables full project customization via a single API call.

Custom templates means Jira Enterprise admins like you can:

For those of you not yet on Jira Enterprise, custom templates are just one of the many ways that Cloud Enterprise makes it easier to scale administration as you grow. Jira Enterprise also helps admins:

Hi Dmitry,

Great news! Any chance this type of project creation could become an Automation action?

We do this now for existing templates via API, which is doable, but having to deal with API authentication and parameters via JSON is quite cumbersome.

Custom templates are exactly what we needed to streamline project creation and maintain consistency across teams. Big thanks to the Jira team for making this happen – can’t wait to try it out!

Hi @Tomislav Tobijas thanks a lot for your feedback, it's really great to hear that you find custom templates valuable! Currently, there are no plans to make this feature available in the Premium plan.

Hi @Tiago Almeida, you're right that so far the best way to create projects automatically is to call an API via the automation rule, that's one of the reasons why we launched new Create Custom Project API that provides better control over config customisation for new projects.

There are no immediate plans to add project creation as a new automation action, but I would be interested to explore this more, as we are analysing use cases for automated project creation flow in Jira.

@Dmitry Melikov I am also interested in the ability to create via automation. One example use case is someone submits a JSM request for a project that gets approved, and the automation could then trigger the project creation via the values specified on the request.
