January Update - What's new in Bitbucket Forge

Hi all,

Our team has been working on quite a few new features in the past few months. In this post, we want to share a summary of all of them:

  • Two new UI modules (repoPullRequestOverviewPanel and repoCodeOverviewPanel) have been introduced. You now have more options to display information from your app in the Bitbucket UI. (changelogs here and here)

  • It is now possible to execute git operations via https in a Bitbucket Forge app from its Forge remote backend (changelog)

  • User selection is now available in a Bitbucket Forge app, thanks to the newly supported UserPicker component (changelog)

  • Your app can now be invoked whenever a reviewer’s approval status changes on a pull request. This can be achieved by listening to the pullrequest-reviewer-status event (changelog)

  • We improved the Bitbucket merge check module payload to make it easier for you to build merge checks. The payload now contains the merge commit message, the merge strategy and whether to close the source branch after the merge (changelog)

  • We introduced workspace and project level custom merge checks (changelog)

  • Workspace admins can access their Bitbucket Forge app's distribution page from workspace settings (changelog)

  • The Forge environment key is now included in the URL of Bitbucket Forge page modules. This allows developers to access the different environments of the app (changelog)

We hope these features help you build Forge apps and solve your use cases.

If you have any questions or feedback, please leave us a comment here.

You can get a high level understanding of what can be built using Bitbucket by checking the Extend Bitbucket Cloud page.

There are also multiple example apps available to help you get started, you can check them out:

Cheers,
Wendy & the Forge for Bitbucket team

The UserPicker is super useful. Though I was surprised to realize that it seemingly does not allow to select groups. I would have expected that to just work, given that the repository permission dialog already contains such an element.
