Coming soon: An improved objective details panel

TL;DR: We’re launching an improved objective details panel experience in version 11.11 for Cloud customers and 11.12 for on-premise environments that will replace the legacy experience in version 11.13 for Cloud, and 11.14 for on-premise environments.

Hello (again), I have another exciting update to share:

As of version 11.11, the improved objective details panel experience will be enabled by default for all Cloud environments as the single place to create and view objectives. This release is scheduled for deployment to continuous track sandbox environments on Apr 25, 2025 and for production Cloud environments on May 9, 2025. The new experience will be available for on-premise environments in version 11.12, which releases on Jun 25, 2025.

We’re excited and believe this change will make it easier for you to:

  1. Streamline and standardize the creation of objectives and key results.

  2. View important details in an organized information architecture.

  3. Clearly identify work that contributes to objective progress.

Got questions or need help? Comment below!

What is changing?

  • Information architecture: Information is sectioned into logical groups so it is faster to find relevant data.

  • There is a clear roll-up of work items that contribute to the overall objective progress.

  • Portfolio Ask date is removed to clarify start and end date on roadmap.

For those that used the OKR Wizard previously, we heard your feedback loud and clear, and have streamlined the creation experience to be much more in line with the rest of the app, as well as to enable quicker creation of multiple objectives. The video below shows a demo of the improved objective creation flow.

Tier and Team are required inputs, and all further required fields (which you can control in your portfolio’s details panels settings) are marked with a red asterisk. Once the objective has been successfully created by selecting Save (or Save and Close), the right side of the objective details panel becomes active. There, you can associate work items, child objectives, and key results that will roll up to the objective score card.

Why are we replacing the legacy objectives details panel?

The legacy objective details panel will be removed from the product in version 11.13. There are a number of reasons we are shipping an improved experience:

  1. Performance: Average page load times are now 38% faster in the improved experience.

  2. Modernization: A react-based user interface reflects Atlassian design standards, including improved accessibility.

  3. Cost: Our team has enhanced the backend while building the new panel, resulting in shorter development cycles for future improvements.

What do I need to do?

For Cloud customers:

We are enabling this experience for all Cloud environments in version 11.11, however, the app will default to the experience you last viewed. If you haven’t used the new experience before, in version 11.11 you’ll still see the legacy objective details panel. There will be a banner at top inviting you to try the new panel.

Once you’ve tried the new experience, you can switch back to the legacy experience by selecting the Switch to legacy view option from the More menu in the top-right corner of a details panel. Whichever experience you last viewed will be remembered as you navigate across an objectives.

As we are planning to remove the legacy objective details panel, as of version 11.12, all users will land in the new experience by default. There will still be the ability to navigate back to the legacy experience for a limited time.

In version 11.13, the legacy objective details panel will be removed from the app, and all Cloud environments will be fully onto the new and improved experience!

For on-premise customers:

We are enabling this experience for on-premise environments in version 11.12, however, the app will default to the experience you last viewed. If you haven’t used the new experience before, in version 11.12 you’ll still see the legacy objective details panel.

As we are planning to remove the legacy objective details panel, as of version 11.13, all users will land in the new experience by default. There will still be the ability to navigate back to the legacy experience for a limited time.

In version 11.14, the legacy objective details panel will be removed from the app, and all environments will be fully onto the new and improved experience!

We’re continuously improving the objectives experience, so we’d love to hear your feedback as you utilize the new details panel!

@Joris van D_ great question! Custom hierarchies will be available in the new objective panel. The field will be called "Rooms" and will be a multi-select dropdown in the More Details section. I will update the screenshot in the article shortly.
