🌟 Level up your Jira Admin game: Tips, videos, and training to share with your users

Hey Jira Admins!

We know you play a key role in helping your teams manage projects, track their progress, and get things done, and we're here to support you!

We’re kicking off a new article series of tips and content that you can share with your users to help them feel more empowered (and make you look even better at your jobs 😎).

Grab a few of the resources below to share with your users this week and over the next several weeks, or share them all at once in a user enablement content pack.

Pick a favorite tip or share one each week over the next 5 weeks with your organization’s Jira users. Drop these tips into Slack or Teams, on your company wiki, or even send them via email. It’s a great way to empower your end users.

Tip #1: Help your users see what’s most pertinent to them.

⭐️ Use the backlog view in Jira to get a clear overview of all your assigned work. Filtering by your name helps reduce clutter and lets you focus on what matters most.

Tip #2: Write a few JQL shortcuts you think would be handy for your users to bookmark.

⭐️ Use JQL shortcuts. Instead of clicking through filters to find what you’re looking for, bookmark Jira queries such as:

My open issues:

assignee = currentUser() AND resolution = Unresolved

All of the work I've reported that isn't finished:

reporter = currentUser() AND resolution = Unresolved

Tip #3: Take advantage of smart links.

⭐️ When you paste a Confluence link into a Jira issue, you can choose how it displays (URL, Inline, Card, or Embed). The Embed feature allows you to interact with Confluence content directly from Jira.

Tip #4: Watch work items instead of chasing people up for status updates.

⭐️  If you care about a project that’s not assigned to you, click on “Start watching” or press “w” when you're in the work item. You’ll be notified of any updates without needing to bug people for status checks.

Tip #5: Take advantage of keyboard shortcuts.

⭐️  Press "?" anywhere in Jira to open up the shortcuts list.

Type "/" in a field such as description or comments to access the formatting menu. This feature enables you to quickly add elements like headings, tables, or checklists.

🎥 In this new video made for us by Community Champion @Alex Ortiz, he dives into JQL to share some of the most useful queries you can pass along to your users (and some you might not have known yourself!).

🧠 And finally, we'll leave you with some food for thought and a few words of wisdom from Community Champion @Josh Costella.

Saying "yes" to a request from a user or stakeholder to add a new field, issue type, status, or project is easy but asking "why" is the single greatest question you can pose.

Read Josh's full article here.

Let us know if you share any of these resources with your users, how they're received, and what you'd like to see included in future editions as we continue this series. We're all ears!

You bet, @Amanda Barber ! I'd love to hear which types of Jira tips they find helpful, to give me some ideas for what we should include in the next article!

We use a Slack Channel to internally market upcoming changes (whether internal or Atlassian-led) and broadcast user tips.

Our users started asking questions in that channel, so now it's also a searchable repo of decisions, changes, and a FAQ for our Jira instance.

This is such perfect timing, thank you @Kristen Roth! I am just building out our corporate knowledge base supporting both admins and users, and this is exactly the kind of thing that I want to populate it with.
