I’m excited to share that our team has been working on a new experiment to make it easier for you to scan work - TMP Colorful Dropdown Fields!
We’re introducing the ability to add color to Options in Dropdown fields in team-managed Projects(TMP) in Jira and Jira Service Management (JSM) projects. This means admins can now assign colors to options in Dropdown fields, making it easier for everyone to visually distinguish important information at a glance.

Changing the selected option
We’ve heard from many business teams that Jira can feel overwhelming, especially with so many fields on each issue. By adding color, we will:
Reduce cognitive load by making each option stand out.
Bridge the gap for Trello users moving to Jira, since Trello already supports colored labels.
Make Jira more intuitive and approachable by making it more colorful.
Business teams who want a simpler, more visual way to organize and update issues.
Admins who want to highlight important options in TMP Dropdown fields for their teams.
Anyone who prefers a more colorful, engaging Jira experience!
Project admins can configure colors for Dropdown field options in Team Managed Projects. This can be done either in the Work item view, Work types page in Project settings, or the Fields Page in Project Settings.
Existing options will default to grey; new options get a random color, which is configurable.
No action needed for end users, just enjoy the visual refresh!
