@Rune Rasmussen - I've spoken to the community team, and there is an option to only get notified for major edits - the setting was a bit hard to find but it's here:
Hopefully this helps to reduce your notification noise!
Thanks for your continual input (and everyone here really).
Yes, “Field Schemes” is what we envision as the simplified/merged state of field config and field config schemes. We’ve done concept testing and progressing to build, but there will be opportunities for early access here as we want to make sure it lands in good shape. I've got your email and will reach out when we are ready.
Thanks for sharing your example - indeed the upcoming changes are meant to address what you’ve shown.
At the end state, you’ll be able to see all the fields easier on the Fields page and manage them. Quick note though, that fields dropdown in your screenshot does “collapses” all the team-managed fields with the same name and type into 1, so in reality when you see your team-managed fields you may see multiples. This is also why we want to give you better visibility so you can choose to use a single, global field instead.
Hi Stefan, if the cosmic power granted me the ability to magically add sorting and filtering columns at one go, it’ll be the first thing I do.
Without making it an excuse, the reality is that some of the admin pages are so old and still on legacy code stacks they aren’t taking advantage of our design system and so every change takes a long time.
Keep your voices coming and the pressure on us to keep propagating these changes to all the pages.
We’ll have to assess the impact to JCMA for each change and will update the documentation accordingly, for now, being aware of the potential concept changes and there will be some differences to “field contexts, field config, field config schemes” where at the end state the migrations won’t be a “lift and shift” is a good start. The end result should be better for the end-users with less clutter, and for admins a simplified mental model - but we recognise it is still a change and may be good to set expectations early on.
We’ll also be publishing any upcoming changes to APIs or new APIs in developer community, so developers can assess if they need to also make changes on their side.
Sorry I may have drifted from your original question at the end, but yes we are working with the JCMA teams and will keep impact to migrations minimal.
@Carol Low Thank you for posting this and answering so many questions in the comments.
I am looking forward to these upcoming changes! The custom field bloat is a looming project for me to deal with and these improvements will help me a lot!
@Carol Low This is fantastic news and will help to easily identify and cleanup all the crap slowing things down. It is truly a leap in the right direction. So excited right now!!

the list now includes system Fields (e.g. Summary and Description) ❤
you can now sort and filter by field type categories, and also sort separately on screens and contexts ❤❤❤
the table is now customisable, with the ability to toggle columns on/off (p.s. it includes a new column for field id) ❤❤❤❤❤
Others have mentioned some key pieces that are still critical to making custom fields fully functional (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-6851) but I have an extremely simple ask for the continuing updates:
Give me an export button. Let me export my custom fields without a plug-in. It seems like such a simple and silly thing that I can't export custom fields, statuses, priorities, user roles, resolutions, etc. without paying for a separate plug-in or trying to pull things through the API.

@Paul Pasler - we're working on support for those field types right now. if it's getting in your way, please use the url to reach the old page, /secure/admin/ViewCustomFields.jspa
From an overall UI perspective, 1) I don't see a scroll bar at the bottom of my screen so I can easily scroll to see the additional columns until I actually start to search for a field and get to the results page; 2) on the initial landing page (before searching) when I scroll down to the bottom of the screen, it's no longer paginated so when I get to the bottom (where there appears to be a bottom scroll bar to scroll right) it loads more fields...3) are we going to be allowed to export the list of fields to a CSV file?
Hey @Carol Low this all sounds really positive. I've used the options to show or hide some of the columns and I particularly like the ability to add a field to a scheme straight from the fields list. Looking good.

@Carol Low Currently, my third-party custom field type based on Forge are no longer available while trying to create a new custom field on this new page "Fields". The small hint to switch to the old page "Custom Fields" can be easily overseen and customers are complaining that it is no longer possible to use my custom field type. Also, existing custom fields of third-party Forge-app custom field type are listed without their custom field type on the new page "fields" (empty field type info).
When do you plan to publish a more reliable and user-friendly upgrade concerning this missing custom field types?
@Carol Low The link to the old experience to be able to create new fields is well-hidden. In addition, while existing fields do show up in the list they don't have a field type shown and seem to not "belong" to any of the "Field type categories" you can filter by (not even "Other"), so are harder to search for than necessary.
And having this change just rolled out broadly on short notice without a reliable timeline on when Forge fields will be supported makes it hard for us to communicate anything reliable to our customers, when they contact us assuming (understandably) that our app is broken.
@Carol Low The new screen is great, takes some getting used to but I like it. One recommendation (I didn't see it above) is related to Projects vs. Projects in Context. Currently the new screen shows projects based on Field Configuration (I believe) where Context is that which it's actually a part of and this context screen is not fun to work with!
