We're posting this article in preparation for the launch of the Jira Product Discovery Premium plan. Other features of the Premium plan are described here.
Large companies who want to roll-out Jira Product Discovery (JPD) to a broad set of teams asked us to have a way to first test their JPD setup in an Atlassian sandbox, like they do for Jira and other Atlassian products.
We are excited to let you know that all future JPD Premium customers can add JPD to an Atlassian sandbox.
Now, JPD Premium customers can test and experiment with changes to their JPD setup in an isolated environment before making them available in production for all users.
Please note JPD sandboxes are available for users who are part of the improved billing experience.
There are a few known limitations that we’ll continue to iterate on over the upcoming months.
Copying your production site to a sandbox will copy the entire production site.
While we work on allowing selective copy of specific JPD projects from your production site to your sandbox site, your entire production site will be copied to the sandbox site, which includes all JPD projects in your production site. Also, if you added Jira or Jira Service Management (JSM) to your sandbox site, be aware that data from these 2 products will also be copied. This action will overwrite any existing data. Learn more in the documentation.
The copy from production will copy a subset of your JPD projects'
Views, view comments, insights, idea templates, votes and reactions, automation rules and roadmaps will not be copied from production. You will see the out-of-the-box All Ideas view in your sandbox JPD projects. You will be able to manually create, edit, delete views and insights in your sandbox site.
Creating JPD projects in your sandbox using the blank project template does not work
When testing JPD in your sandbox, please use the other available Jira Product Discovery project templates. At the time of writing this post, the remaining available templates are:
Product discovery
Product roadmap
After the copy from production is completed, media files will take 10-15 minutes to be available
When you open an idea that has attachments right after a sandbox site becomes online, you might not find the attachments on newly copied ideas. These will appear a few minutes later.
Feel free to drop your thoughts in the comments of this community to help us shape what’s next. We are hard at work removing these limitations! in the meantime, we cannot wait to hear from you.
Cheers,
Amina
