Is it possible to measure the % of completion for a project whose roadmap is in JPD?

Marco Borges February 5, 2025

Hi everyone, I have a project roadmap with over 30 ideas planned throughout 2025 formalized in Jira Product Discovery. Each of these ideas has associated epics or tasks. I’d like an easy way to understand the project’s percentage of completion without having to manually assess how many ideas have been completed versus how many are open. I think JPD should provide this information clearly visible at the top of the roadmap. How much is left to complete? What is the current percentage of completion considering the established timeline, completed tasks, and the backlog?

Hi Marco, it's not possible today. To be honest I'm not sure if you can rely on the % of tickets completed to know how much work is left 😅 (the last 20% often takes 80% of the time 😜)

However, technically speaking, if you really wanted to do that you could try the following:

  • Create an idea that's at the roadmap level and shows on the view. Let's call it the "master idea"
  • Create an automation rule so that any time someone adds a delivery ticket to an idea it also adds that delivery ticket for the "master idea"
  • Then the delivery progress of the master idea would be the total sum of all the work across all ideas

This might take some fiddling around to make it work, and I'm not convinced it would help you understand real progress - but maybe it's worth a try?
