Hello Atlassian Community!

In JPD, I just created a roadmap view. The items I included there span from today until end of 2028, so quite a long time. In the roadmap settings (time scale), I can only select quarters or months - this leads to stakeholders having to scroll all the way to 2028.

I would like to show this long-term roadmap in a compact way, only by years.

Do you know if and how this is possible? Or do you know a workaround?

Thanks for your help!

Hi @helene_blumer  👋

I totally get the need for a more compact view when planning long-term!

Current State (as far as I know)

In Jira Product Discovery, the roadmap timeline currently supports monthly and quarterly time scales. There’s no built-in yearly view yet, and this has been raised by other users in the community.

Workarounds You Might Try

While we wait for a native “year” scale, here are a few ideas that could help:

  1. Group by Year Field
Create a custom field like “Target Year” and use a board view grouped by that field. It’s not a timeline, but it gives a clean yearly breakdown.
  2. Use the “Now / Next / Later” View
This view is great for high-level planning and avoids strict dates. It’s especially useful when you want to communicate strategy without overwhelming detail.
  3. External Publishing
If you’re sharing with stakeholders, consider exporting or publishing the roadmap in Confluence, to present a simplified yearly view.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your detailed answer @Christos Markoulatos and for your suggestions! May I ask, regarding your third suggestion, how would exporting or publishing in Confluence help?

Hi again @helene_blumer  😊

This is based on my experience and what I’ve seen others do in similar situations.

Why Confluence helps:

  • It gives you flexibility to present your roadmap in a yearly format, using tables, timelines, or even visuals.
  • You can embed JPD views or link directly to ideas, so stakeholders can drill down if needed.
  • It’s easier to combine context, strategy, and visuals in one place, especially useful for executive-level presentations or cross-team alignment.

So while JPD’s timeline view is great for tracking delivery, Confluence can act as your strategic layer for communicating the big picture.

It’s not a perfect substitute for a native “year” scale, but it helps present long-term plans in a cleaner, more digestible format.

Try it confluence has a lot of great features!

Hi @helene_blumer  , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your post.

The product roadmap for Jira Product Discovery is here https://www.atlassian.com/wac/roadmap/cloud?selectedProduct=jpd

I don't see a way to ask for this to be added to the JAC system, which is like the Atlassian backlog for suggestions / improvements and bugs, as Jira Product Discovery isn't listed there as a product. As a second person just wrote a post with this same suggestion, I am going to flag these to Atlassian to ask them what to do.

Best wishes
