Creating visuals (e.g. pie charts) in Product Discovery as a new view

I’m exploring ways to create custom visualizations in Jira Product Discovery beyond the default views (like the list, matrix, and timeline). Specifically, I'm wondering if there's any way to generate pie charts or similar graphical summaries based on field values (e.g. Effort, Value, Status, or Tags).

My Use case:
Create a view within a Product Discovery project that helps communicate the distribution of ideas by category or status. For example, a pie chart showing what percentage of ideas are tagged with each theme.

Questions:

  1. Is there any way to create pie charts, bar graphs, or other visual summaries directly in Jira Product Discovery today?

  2. If not, are there workarounds ?

  3. Is this on the roadmap or something other users have requested?

Hi @Elise Edson and welcome to the Community!

While other types of views are not available in a Jira Product Discovery project, the most common way to address your request would be to build a dashboard.

On a dashboard, you can add gadgets (like the pie chart you mention) that visualise data from either your JPD project or from saved filters you define yourself. That should help you get the visualisations you need.

The way to go about is:

  • create and save the filters you need to get the data you want for your charts first.
  • create a new dashboard from the + button next to Dashboards in the navigation
  • add gadgets to the dashboard and connect your filters to them.
  • save your dashboard when you're done

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the prompt reply! This makes sense - I was just trying to keep everything in my JPD project (one project to rule them all...) but I understand needing to use a separate Dashboard and appreciate the support. Cheers! :)
