Gathhering Information and commenting in JPD

David Meffe August 8, 2025

In a regular Jira work item, I can link emails, and our users can reply to comments, allowing for threaded topics. JPD doesn't currently offer 3rd party apps therefore i can't link email threads, nor does the comment section allow replies. My team is finding it really hard to gather information on an idea the same way they would on a Work Item in Project.

What are some workarounds everyone is doing? Are there plans to change any of this in the future?

Hey David,

For emails, it is correct you dont have the opportunity to link them directly in an idea, the only workaround would be to export them in PDF.

Regarding threaded comments, it is also not there, but we have this feature in our radar, and while it is not yet on our roadmaps we will explore it.

We've created the insights section to gather information under ideas, but it is true that this section is more optimized to receive data points (a support ticket, something you read in a blog, a link to a customer interview, a metric dashboard) rather than full conversation.

Can you elaborate a bit on the usecases you have where you need to add a full email threads or threaded comments? It might help to find potential workarounds.

Hey Hermance,

For me, it's more of a reference/contextual link. The key data points are usually brought into the idea, either in the form of an insight or by comment, or straight into the description. But having that link to the email for reference is extremely useful. Where the data point came from, and all its relevant information is in that email thread. It's a lot faster to link the email vs exporting all that information.

Comments are conversational and not always sequential... is it not self-explanatory to want to reply to someone's comment that might be 3-4 comments below? Your comment ends up having zero context, and related comments end up being splattered all over.

Gotcha, thank you for elaboarting on your use cases, I've added it all on our discovery project!

Cheers,

Hermance
