I want to add priority to the product ideas in the Jira Product Discovery project. However, I don't see it on the system default list. When I search for the field, it showed me that no fields to show.
But when I tried to add it as a custom field, it told me that there is a field with the same name already exists in the project.
Do you know why this happened and how can I add the priority field to the product idea?
Hi @Xiaoying Wang and welcome to the Community!
There isn't. JPD is built on the foundations of team managed projects (these projects have their own fields) and uses a different prioritisation system (based on e.g. effort, impact, insights, votes, formula fields).
The error you get when creating the field does not look very nice - my guess is because Priority is a system field in Jira. This looks like a bug (you can't add the field to your project but can't create one with the same name).
As a workaround, you could just give the field a different name (JPD Priority, Prio, ...)
Hope this helps!
For me the whole point of JPD is to define parameters that make up the priorisation. For example using the RICE framework (Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort). Then you can create a weighted score to have the priorisation as a result. This is described well in the Atlassian Product Discovery Handbook.
But of course you can just use your own simple field - if that fits your workflow better.
