We run automations that sum up story points inside an epic and inside of an initiative. We use these metrics to make various decisions within our organization. Using JPD, when we look at the delivery progress widget, are offered the following information based upon the settings:
Example 1: If the Delivery Progress settings are "Simple" and "Story Points", then the widget will calculate at the Initiative level
Delivery Progress Bar : [0 points To-Do][41 points In-Progress][0 points Done]
Example 2: If the Delivery Progress settings are "Default" and "Story Points", then the widget will calculate at the top two levels (Initiative+Epic) and they are double counted based on Status.
Delivery Progress Bar : [10 points To-Do][72 points In-Progress][0 points Done]
What I would want to see is the actual work breakdown, summing at the child level ( see question ) and the ability to still see the point count of Epic and Initiative w/o being in the total. If the widget was working this way, my output would be as follows:
Delivery Progress Bar : [13 points To-Do][8 points In-Progress][20 points Done]
Is this suggestion something Atlassian could consider? I surely can't be the only person with this issue or desire.
You may use the ? > Give feedback about Jira at the top-right of the pages to suggest this change.
I recall other questions related to also using linked issues (rather than parent / child relationships) as rollup options, but that seems different from your scenario. There is a new feature for Premium and Enterprise levels for an issue hierarchy within JPD itself, but I do not know how that impacts the "delivery ticket" progress calculations.
Kind regards,
Bill

I don't believe Atlassian will ever get to this point. Not only with JDP, but core parts like releases and sprints/boards are missing the same progress calculation functionality. For us that was one of the reasons to start making 3rd party apps for Jira.
For instance, in our app Pivot Report there's this option for progress calculations:
Simple yet something haven't been added in years. And that gives a major difference for work structures like in the example of yours.
