Setting values to Rating fields through automation

Good day, guys!

I'm trying to automate the creation of some Ideas in a Jira Product Discovery project.

The original data comes from a Jira Service Management project, and through an automation, I'm trying to set the Value, Effort, and Impact fields in Product Discovery.

E.g.:

Let's say I have 3 fields:

  • Impact to Company
    • High Impact
    • Medium Impact
    • Low Impact
  • Effort to Implement
    • High
    • Medium
    • Low
  • Value to user
    • High
    • Medium
    • Low

I've created an automation to retrieve the value from these fields, convert it into a number using a Lookup Table, assign it to a variable, and then attempt to set the value for the Rating fields from the Product Discovery project.

It returns the error below:

"Unable to create work item
Specify a number for the custom field (below 100,000,000,000,000) (customfield_10841), Specify a number for the custom field (below 100,000,000,000,000) (customfield_10842), Specify a number for the custom field (below 100,000,000,000,000) (customfield_10840)"
I believe Jira blocks it by default, but I'd like your opinion, as you could have already gone through something like it.
Thanks!

Hi @Gustavo Moraes

For a question like this, context is important for the community to help.  Please post the following:

  • an image of your complete automation rule in a single image for continuity
  • images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches
  • an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution
  • explain what is not working as expected and why you believe that to be the case

Until we see those...

What are the types of your JPD fields which you are trying to set?

If those are calculated fields, they cannot be set as the value are not actually saved in the Idea: they are dynamically calculated for display only.  If they are other field types, setting the specifics for your rule will help identify the cause of what you observe.

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @Gustavo Moraes , thanks for your post.

I also had a look at this as I was interested in this topic.

I don't see any examples in the template library to create from another product into JPD. Instead they are from the other way around, where the JPD closing would open a Jira work item.

I checked this also - https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/advanced-field-editing-using-json/ but I don't find the JPD fields in the custom field settings so I am going to ask Atlassian about this.

They should reply to us here in this post.

Best wishes
