Timeline view and board view

I have made a kanban board. I have already added tasks to board view and I want to see the same tasks on timeline view because in board view I have added start and end dates with time stamps. 

But its saying me to add epics there. Don't understand what that is. Also, Suppose my task of board view has a name called TES-1. I want to see the same on timeline view. I am unable to do that. 

What can I do?

Are you using Jira Product Discovery project type or Jira Software?

This is a message board for Jira Product Discovery which only has one issue type and does not have Tasks or Epics.
