Automation: Update a field of an Epic in JPD from the Delivery progress coming from JIRA software

We have JIRA Software and going to add JPD to it. We would love to change the status/update fields based on the Delivery progress field.

E.g. if the "Delivery status" field is 100% Done, then automatically update the Epic state/update a particular Epic field (Select field - we have readmap stages in that Select field).

Is there any way how we can do this now or this kind of automation is not supported?

Hi @Jaroslav Polacek

To update delivery tickets via automation you will need to configure a rule tat will execute across project. That is an issue because Standard Jira only allows 1000 'cross project' automations a month, you either:

• Need to be using Jira Software Premium
• Be on Jira Standard and have automation rule budget left to support the automations

Now if one of those statements are true for you, you can copy my rule documented below that will achieve the automation you are looking to have:

 

This rule should be configured in JPD and will look at status updates in your Software project and sync the JPD status accordingly. We don't create Software tickets until the requirements are 'ready' but the 'else-if' can scale as you need it to, depending on how far back you create software tickets in the process.

If you are on Standard, you will need to be careful about the triggers (which is why I have limited mine the way I have) as the budget on standard counts for rule triggers, not successfully completed rules.

thanks a lot for the info and screenshots. Here is what I would like to achieve with automation:

If the "Delivery progress" field is 100% Done (which is true on the picture above), then update the select field from "Develop" to "Announce".

That would automatically move my Epic from the "Develop" to "Announce" stage in a board view. 

Is it something what I can achieve with the automation on your screenshots?

Hi, yes you can, it's in the FAQ:

You can use Project Automation to automatically make a change to an idea (change a field value, transition to a status) when it's delivery epic/issues are done.
