📢 Introducing hierarchy in the All work view in project navigation!

đź‘‹ Hi Jira community!

I'm Amira, a Product Manager in Jira Cloud. I am excited to announce we are bringing hierarchy to the All work view in project navigation! 🎉

This update makes it easier to visualise relationships, organise tasks, and collaborate efficiently—all without the need to switch contexts or opening a different view.

✨ What’s new?

✅ Expand & collapse hierarchies – Get a clear, structured view of related issues at a glance.
✅ Quick child work item creation – Add child work items without leaving the list.

This update enhances clarity, structure, and scalability, helping teams efficiently manage work in both team-managed and company-managed projects.

Prefer a flat list?

If you’d rather work with a flat list of work items, you can customise your view! Simply head to View settings and turn off the Show hierarchy button.

That’s not all!

We're constantly working on more enhancements for the All work view - stay tuned for updates! 🚀

We’d love to hear your thoughts - drop your feedback and let us know what you think!

Thanks for being part of our community! ❤️

Thanks @Amira Badran - this looks cool.

Will this work for all levels - Initiatives, Epics, Story/Task, Sub-tasks as well? And across Standard and Premium Jira too?

Thank you
Yatish

@Yatish Madhav Glad you liked it!

The hierarchy change will support all levels within your existing configured hierarchy.

  • For Jira Premium users: It will apply to all levels respecting the hierarchy defined in Plans since Premium allows custom levels above Epics.
  • For Standard Jira users: The hierarchy will work within the default structure of Epics → Stories/Tasks → Sub-tasks, as custom hierarchy levels are not supported in Standard Jira.

@Amira Badran Will this behaviour also be coming to the Filters --> View All Issues search menu?
It feels half baked to have different behaviours in what I would have assumed were the same function/module.

@Amira Badran Does it include a refactoring of hierarchy display in issue details screen?

Because having only the direct parent there is quite bothering... it would be nice to have options to set there:

  • Direct parent only / Full hierarchy
  • Keys / 20 characters of Summary

@Rune Rasmussen Thanks so much for the feedback!  You're absolutely right that consistency across views is important. At the moment, our focus is on improving the All Work view within project navigation, which we're actively evolving to align with the experience of other project-scoped views.
The global issue search is part of a different module, which is why it doesn’t yet support the new hierarchy view. While we absolutely intend to harmonise these experiences over time and bring features like hierarchy to more parts of Jira, this is not currently on our short-term roadmap.
Totally agree it feels incomplete today—but we’re just getting started! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

@Jonathan Porta Thanks so much for sharing your feedback - really appreciate you taking the time!
I checked in with the team that looks after this area. From what you described, I’m guessing you're referring to the breadcrumbs at the top of the issue details screen when you mention visual hierarchy. Right now, we don’t have any plans to change how that looks or behaves. If we do revisit it down the line, the conversations have mostly been about simplifying the design rather than adding new functionality.
That said, you can still see things like the issue type and summary when you hover over the breadcrumb elements.
We’ll definitely keep your feedback in mind for any future updates - feel free to reach out if there’s anything else you'd like to share!
