1 team with multiply products

‪gilad maharal‬‏ April 8, 2019

Hi there

would like to ask what will be the best way to build our structure in Jira if our team is working as follow:

- we are 1 team

- we have 4 different products  (each product can be related/not related to other products - depends on us) we are developing

- I tried to focus each sprint on another product. but usually, there are some kind of mix missions - or cross products missions

what will be the best way to work - 1 project for all and separate between different products using labels - or different projects?

do you have other tips for managing a backlog like this?

Thank you!

As you mentioned there are two paths: 1 project or two. The choice really comes down to a few things:

  • can/will the workflows be the same for each issue type
  • will you want the same screens and custom fields
  • Do you need to restrict permissions for any of the projects/teams

in my opinion if you can stick with one project you should. You can always break it out later with a little effort. If you do on project use Components NOT Labels. Components give you a more reliable result and you can, if desired, assign component leads that will receive all issue initially. With one project you can still have separate scrums/kanbans if desired too.
