Hi,
a developer who was very active in Jira left the company. What is the best practice now?
I guess deleting his account isn't the best idea!? What if we take all his rights / authorizations away, so that he even can't log in anymore? If his user account can't log in anymore, we also get the user license back.
Is that the way to go? Just remove his rights / authorizations?
We are using Jira Server 8.5.1.
Regards
Stefan
You should disable the account instead of deleting. This will make sure that their license doesn't count toward the total and that login is prevented.
History is preserved and "inactive" will show next to the user's name.
If they ever return, you can easily re-enable them.
Kind regards
Jorden

Just for posterity and as some fellow Jira admins found it useful - some time ago there was a great webinar on this topic. In case you are interested you can still watch - sometimes this is just better then just reading, isn't it. Enjoy!
