API Requests: Replacement of epic with parent field

With the replacement of the epic field by the parent field in jira issues, I need to customize my rest queries.
So far I have read the epic information from customfeld_10014.
Now the question arises for me, will the information still be available in this field via API after the replacement or only via the parent array?
The problem with the latter option (in my opinion) is that it is not possible to distinguish without additional effort whether the parent issue is a parent in the former sense of an epic or simply a parent in the form of a task (parent of a subtask).
