API request to get the time an issue spent in a particular state

Juan Pedro Silva July 30, 2020

Hi!,

I´m working on JIRA Cloud and I would like to generate a report which shows the time individual issues spent on a determined state (e.g., time "Ïn Development", in "QA", etc.).

Is there anything available by default in the API, or some sort of query that I could build?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

JP

Hi @Juan Pedro Silva  -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Regarding measuring the time in status, there is no out-of-the-box way to do this with JIRA cloud.  To have this capability, you could:

  • Buy a marketplace add-on product,
  • Export the system logs using a webhook and parse them in a log parser, or
  • Build your own solution using custom fields and automation rules.

There are several community posts about the last two methods, and I expect that one or more marketplace vendors will respond to your question with add-ons you can purchase.

Also, there are several suggestions to add cycle and lead time measures to JIRA, which you can review and vote for on these items:

Best regards,

Bill

Thanks, Bill! Will sure add my vote to those suggestions.

I will research the use of listeners for building it ourselves too.

Hi @Juan Pedro Silva

If you need to get this data now, you can try a solution from the Atlassian Marketplace.

For example, one of them is Time in Status for Jira Cloud. It generates reports which show the time individual issues spent on a determined state like Development, QA etc.

Also, this app lets you view other types of reports useful for managers (assignee time, average time, etc.) All data are available for chart view and as the gadget for the Jira dashboard.

Hope this info will be useful for you.

Regards,

Zoryana
