Abandoned story getting the parent link deleted

I have recently noticed that an abandoned story gets removed from the epic. Is this a new "feature". Is there a way to disable this for a project ?

Jira does not natively have the concept of an "abandoned" issue. In your configuration what indicates an issue has been abandoned? Do you set it to a specific status?

Jira does not natively automatically remove issues from Epics. It is possible that an Administrator of your instance has implemented a rule that removes "abandoned" issues from Epics. You should check with your Administrators to find out if that is the case. You can also click on the Rule Executions field of such an issue to see if a rule has been run against it:
