Active sprint shows all in progress ticket in the project

Nadine Fontannaz July 29, 2020

Hi,

I would like to see in the "active sprint" board all the stories in progress in the current sprint but also stories in progress from future sprint or backlog. it happens that people don't have enough task in the current sprint so we end up picking task that is outside. But until the task is really done I don't want to add it in the current sprint as it was not part of the initial sprint scope.

Is there a way to filter?

thanks.

Hello @Nadine Fontannaz

Thank you for reaching out.

The "Active Sprint" view of Jira boards can only display the issues added to the current active Sprint(s) of your board. Please, allow me to clarify a few concepts behind this feature so we can confirm we are on the same page here.

About this sentence:

But until the task is really done I don't want to add it in the current sprint as it was not part of the initial sprint scope.

I understand your goal to keep the future issue out of the current active Sprint to prevent the initial scope to change, however, this will cause all the work done in the future issue to be lost in some reports.

Additionally, there are some reports that do not consider the Sprint field as the parameter to display the issue progress. Instead, it considers the time range of the work logged (such as the burndown report), so the issue estimation would be added to the current active board anyway.

For that reason, I suggest one of the following approaches:

  1. When starting work on an issue of a future Sprint, move the issue to the active one. The change of the scope will be flagged in the reports with an *, so I believe it might not cause you any problems or misunderstand.
  2. Enable the parallel Sprints feature, so you will be able to create another active Sprint to track the scope change.
P.S: There are some limitations in that feature that might not work as expected in some scenarios. Check the documentation below for more details:
    Use parallel sprints
