Added a new column but I do not have an extra status

I have just become an admin on a board that has already been created. The problem is, the board was not setup properly, On the scheduling board of my JIRA project all statuses have been used, Not certain how to handle this. Would it be possible to drag the new status to the backlog and create the epics in the backlog thus maybe freeing up a status for the new column. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I could provide a screenshot of my board if you would like.

Hi @Roger Davidson maybe someone else will be able to help without screenshot, but I would be grateful for them...I'm kind of "visual" type of person :)

Sorry new to this. The screenshot is of the scheduling board. Can I drag the new down to backlog and create the epics in backlog without messing up the board

Martin, Let's try this again. Here are two screenshots of my board. #1 is the start of the board and #2 is the continuation of the board going left to the right If that makes sense.

The column titled NEW PROJECTS I just added, however, there aren't enough statuses to use. Not certain what to do. Should I create a backlog and in the backlog create my EPICS? Maybe you could shed some light on the subject. The board I was given permission to, I made a copy of to try and figure out what to do, I didn't want to mess up the original board so I just created a copy.
