Added a status to our workflow and after publishing, some issues only show new status

Amy Burger January 9, 2023

I made a copy of my workflow and added a "code review" status.  After publishing this workflow, about half of the issues are working as expected, but a large part of the issues in the backlog (but not all) can only transition to the new status, and others do not show up as able to transition to.  Need suggestions on how to fix this issue.  I'm not sure why all issues are not the same using the same workflow.  Thanks!

The first picture is what I expect to see.  The second is what some of the issues are now showing.

Hi @Amy Burger

I've assumed this is a Company-managed Project from the question's details - let us know if it's Team-managed.

There's a range of reasons why a transition might not be visible. The most common ones are:

  • Transitions: There are no inward transitions to the Status from other Statuses
  • Conditions: There are conditions on these Statuses' transitions - which require certain attributes to allow for a transition to be visible/possible.

Would it be possible to...

  • Provide a screenshot of your Workflow, so we can advise further on the transitions?
  • Check the Conditions (click on a transition, and select "Conditions" from the pop-up menu) of each transition, to see if there are any limitations on moving between them?

For more information on Conditions, visit this help page

yes, this is company managed.  I will get more details on the workflow, thanks.

Each status has an inward transition and there are no conditions on any of the statuses.

We decided not to use the new workflow and I have gone back to the previous workflow we were using and it has gotten worse.  Now this is an emergency!

This is the workflow:

but when I create an issue, the following is all the status that are available to me.:

Hi @Amy Burger

Is the first Status when you create an issue "Ready for Implementation"? From your screenshot, it looks like it should be "Backlog"

I'd recommend...

  • Create a new Workflow, without copying anything across
  • Rebuild the Workflow without adding any Conditions/Validators
  • Test this (in a test Project?)

...and see if the problem persists. This way, you're not trying to modify an existing Workflow - you're starting fresh :)

Thanks Stephen.  I will try that and let you know how it goes.
