Adding label to a user group

In the API endpoint GET /rest/api/2/groups/picker, the response includes an array of labels.

I have looked around, but I am not able to figure out how to set a label to a user group.

Does anyone know how this can be done?

I'm making an educated guess based on reviewing the API documentation that these are set only through the API and might be set using the Additional Properties option of the Create Group endpoint
