Allow external users create bugs in existing board without seeing other tasks

Magdalena March 2, 2023

Hello
we have quite limited access to projects in our company because we have a lot of external customers (we work as a software house) and we do not want to give them access to other projects.

However, there is a need to give them access to the project backlog, so that they can report bugs and track their progress, but without being able to view the current tasks. Is it possible to set up permissions in this way, or do I need to create a separate backlog? I have used the permissions scheme all the time, but there is no possibility to choose only tasks which they created. Is there any flow for support already created in Jira Cloud? For the internal team, it would be good to have all tasks in one place.

Any tips on how to solve problems by allowing external users to create tasks and watch them will be helpful.

Hi @Magdalena

I'd recommend that you check out issue security schemes.

With an issue security scheme, you can decide on an issue level which group of users should be able to see it. For the issues which can be seen by every user of this project, you could just assign no security level for the issue. For all internal issues, you'd set a security level where only your internal users are assigned to.

Let me/us know if you need help setting that up.

Cheers,
Matthias.

Hi Magdalena

It sounds like you want users to see their work, that they created but no one elses work in that Project?

If so , just select Reporter in the permission for Browse Projects
Ensure that user does not have any other permission that would grant them higher Browse Permissions

Hello CJ Edwards,

Thank you for your response!

But with this solution, we would have to create support tickets for them and assign them as Reporters, so they will see them but won't be able to create them themselves. And in that case, I want to give them the opportunity to also create tasks by themselves.

And I understand there can be a closed group of developers on the "browse project" list also. I need to give access to the company developers.
