Alternative to Epic Link field?

Joanna Ramsay October 6, 2021

Hi,

A user has asked if it's possible to link an issue to multiple Epics. I know it's not possible using the Epic Link field, but I'm looking for an alternative way to do it.

All I've done so far is create a new 'Multiple Issue Picker' custom field and added some parameters. I'm now trying to figure out how to show this link from the Epic.

If you fill out the 'Epic Link' field, the issue automatically appears in the Epic under 'Issues in Epic'. I want to replicate this behaviour, but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Has anyone managed to do this? If so, how?

Thanks,
Joanna

Hi @Joanna Ramsay

Sorry for asking, but why you don't use issue linking? This native functionality works like a charm and is out of the box feature. Of course you can customize it and add a new issue link type, just for this reason (keep in mind that this change will affect all projects).

if you don't like this for some reason consider Labels, though not as useful IMO.

The issue link is by far the best way to do links between issues.  If you do link issue-A to Epic-B, from issue-A, the Epic will immediately show the link without needing to be updated.

But, no, it's not the same as an Epic link, and a story can only belong to one Epic.
