Am I restricted from changing issue types if the issue types have their own screen?

I have a screen for Story and a screen for Defect.  I can no longer change a Defect to a story and vice versa.  Is it because they have their own screen?  I have mad the fields on the two issues match but it will still not let the issue be edited to change type.

I actually solved this late yesterday by adding the issue type to my screen and "wahlah!" I can edit the type. Thank you for the reply.
