Any good tips for managing risks within Jira? Don't want a plug-in, want to track within Jira

I am managing multiple initiatives within Jira and would like to hear how people track both risks and dependencies within Jira?

At my previous company we set up a new Jira issue type called Risk, which had it's own (fairly simple) workflow. These just stayed in the backlog, but with a simple query you can check the status of all "risks".

The simplest way of dealing with dependencies is to use the Jira linking functionality.
