Any way to track Velocity across 3 teams using one backlog?

Kevin Quinn March 21, 2022

I have One project that has 3 Scrum boards created by label filters (backend, front-end, DevOps)

Is there a way to track the individual velocities of these teams within JIRA or Confluence? Willing to consider 3rd party solutions as well

Hi @Kevin Quinn and welcome to the community!

Have you considered configuring for three individual projects instead?  This would give you the individual velocity metrics of each team.  You can still maintain consolidated oversight as well through:

  • Creation of a cross-project board: The teams could work on their individual boards and you can have your own board for visibility into everything
  • Use of shared schemes: You can still work with a consolidated workflow, issue scheme, screens, etc. by having all three projects share the same scheme
  • Consolidated Dashboards: You can create cross-project filters to drive dashboards

While there would be some initial effort to move all of the issues to their new projects, this would be best practice for the long haul and you'll find it more effective for tracking/reporting
