Applying filters to ToDo Column on the Kanban Board

NS October 7, 2019

Is it possible to filter out among open issues in the ToDo column on the standard Kanban Board? Having a long list of all open issues is not sufficient on our case

Hi @NS

On the standard Kanban (created from the template) - your options are:

  • To edit the filter query to limit the options in your first column - this would hide issues of course, depending if you have a specific requirement for them to be on the board
  • Add quick filters so you can filter for a reduced list of issues - without needing to remove issues from the board
  • Add swimlanes - for example, if you have several components to categorise the work, you could add swimlanes based on components to group the work
  • Activate the Kanban Backlog - to move the first column into a backlog view, making a long list more manageable

If one of these sounds of interest, let us know if you need help activating it :)

Hi @NS  - yes, you should be able to create a Quick Filter that uses a JQL statement such as:

status != Open (or whatever the status is which is mapped to your ToDo column. You could label it something like Hide Open. We do that with Hide Done on our boards also.

what is a "standard" kanban board? If you can edit the Board configuration you can create a quick filter to temporarily filter out unwanted issues in the to do column. If you don't want them at all then add the filter to your board filter so it never shows. Generally, solving long To Do columns is done by enabling the Backlog board.
