Are edits made to Custom fields pushed out to workflow and listeners?

I am wanting to edit the Program Increment Custom Field to be 'Planning Interval' and I'm curious if this change will be reflected in workflows/listeners that call for this field

For listeners, it will likely depend if you used the Custom Field ID or the name - the ID won't change even if you change the name.

For workflows, I'm fairly confident they also use the ID, but I'd simply give it a test first, see what happens :)
