Hi Guys,

Need help in setting up a project for UX research team.

As a UX Research team, they need to do the following activity for a single module/a research. May I know what would the best practise to track all these tasks for a research and track logged time/work as well for each below mentioned tasks.

User want to see per assignee logged works for each task

  • Planning
  • Recruitment
  • Conducting Interview
  • Analysis
  • Deliverables Shaping
  • QA
  • Syncs & Meeting

I suggested user to use Story and under Story create sub-task for each activity.
and use Roadmap , sorted by Assignee to see logged work for each activity and status for each activity under Story.
Kindly suggest best method to implement this, so that user can see all assignee logged work for each task on a single page or dashboard.

Hi @Vikrant Yadav ,

I would be interested in exploring these questions:

  • Is the UX research team accustomed to working in Jira?
  • Will the team work in sprints or not?
  • Are there dependencies to other teams work that needs to be managed?
  • How linear/parallell are the subtasks?
  • Are all the subtasks supposed to be done for each "Story"

You have many options to serve the team:

  1. Use a Work Management project instead of a JSW?
  2. Create different issue type for a UX research so they recognize these tasks and other users are not mistaking a real story from a UX story.
  3. Maybe autogenerate all the subtasks - if all subtasks always should be done
  4. Work log seems to be needed. Have you any addons to support the work logging/reporting a bit? Addons from Tempo for example really improve this feature.

best of luck

Lisa

Hi @Lisa Forstberg  Thanks for your response!

Currently they are not using Jira. Managing tasks in excel.

They don't work in Sprint. They just want to track their task and effort on a single portal, where they can showcase to upper management that much for task done by each team member and amount of hour spend on each task by each assignee.

Yes, they want to link their task to engineering tasks.

Yes, they want Story to be completed when all subtasks get complete.

Can they create a dashboard where they can logged work for each assignee for each task?

If they use excel now I think the step over to Jira Work management project will be easier, as that give them the option to work both in a list view or in a kanban view.

They can link their researchwork to Development items like storys, from their JWM project to the project the dev team works in.

Storing their work in a JWM project also allows them to display their tasks in a dashboard.

Not really sure what you mean by " create a dashboard where they can logged work for each assignee for each task?" Maybe:

  • Use worklog pie chart-gadget you can use to visualise the time log distribution.
  • Add a filter result to see time log distribution per issue

If you want to have a report to see who logged what time on what issue in a matrix view you won't be able to get that by the standard gadgets or reports. You need to look for addons to extend the basic reportings f ex the addons from Tempo or explore the addons that extend the reporting capabilities

best regards

Lisa

@Lisa Forstberg  Thanks a lot Lisa for your suggestions.

I have created JWM project for the user and setup Plans in Jira to show Story points assignee to each users for each tasks.
