Assets custom field weird behavior

I have a Assets custom field to select objects from Assets. For some reason, the default value of this field is showing "Automatic" and it allows creation of issue with an empty value since no object called "Automatic" exists in Assets. This field is supposed to be mandatory but this behavior is causing it not being populated properly.

I don't experience this issue with any other assets objects
