Assign new users (account created from jira customer portal) to a group

I would like to assign to a group all the users that create a new account from the customer portal.

I use Data Center (Jira Software and Jira Service Management).

I also use Crowd where I have the directory where I store employee users but I want to store the external users not in Crowd but locally in Jira.

I enabled the Jira internal directory and moved at the top with Crowd in second place.

I created a group in Jira (the other groups are coming from Crowd)

Under Applications -> Application access I did the following:

1. Clicked on "Set defaults for new users" and ticked Jira Service Management
2. Under Jira Service Management I have added the group I created earlier

I tested everything and new users are created in the Jira internal directory but they are not assigned to any group.
