Did you mean:

Assign task to a viewer member

Gaylord Gauvrit November 17, 2022

I would like to create a "view-only" JIRA project where people can't comment or move a task but can be assigned to this task.

I have created a private project and invite people as viewers. Unfortunately I can't assign those people to the tasks.

Is there any solution for that ?

Hi @Gaylord Gauvrit

My suggestion would be :

  • create a Project Role called Viewers
  • in your project permission scheme add the role Viewers to permission "Assignable User"
    • if you want to allow these users to see issues
    • add role Viewers to 'Browse Project" permission

In your project people settings you can then add groups or individual users to the Viewers role.

Are you using team or company managed projects?

This is a good summary

Thanks @Tom Lister . I'm using team managed project. I can't find the "Assignable User" option when creating a new role. Capture d’écran 2022-11-17 à 14.17.46.png

Hi @Gaylord Gauvrit

Team-managed projects don't allow the detailed permission settings to achieve this. The in-bullt Viewer role is more restricted than you want.

Thanks for your reply.

I found a work-around: change role to members / assign tasks to members / change role again to viewer.

The assignation stays on the tasks and my users can't edit it.

Yes that’s always an option
