Atlassian User Provisioning API (SCIM) vs Jira Cloud Platform create user API

Hi everyone,

I am a bit confused about two different APIs below that seem to do the same thing which is creating users.

  1. Jira Cloud Platform Create User API here
    https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/platform/rest/v3/api-group-users/#api-rest-api-3-user-get
  2. User Provisioning (SCIM) Rest API
    https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/admin/user-provisioning/rest/intro/

Both APIs seem to do the same thing that is provisioning the users.

Can anyone help explain when we need to use the #1 and when we need to use the #2?

Thanks,
Priska

Hello @Priska Aprilia ,

The answer to your questions is already included in the links you are pointing to. However, in short, as the name says:

  1. The Jira Cloud Platform Create User API is part of the Jira Cloud REST APIs and is used to create users in Jira. However, as written in the documentation this will be removed soon:
This resource is retained for legacy compatibility. As soon as a more suitable alternative is available this resource will be deprecated.
  2. The User Provisioning (SCIM) REST API to Create Users are used to integrate your Organization with an Identidy Provider. A user account can only be created if it has an email address on a verified domain.

For further details on this please review below links:

Cheers,
Dario
