What they would like is to have the original issue number as well as the description on the new card. I do not seem to see that this is possible. Any idea would be greatly appreciated.
You can get the issue key and description of the original issue by using smart values, in this case you are looking for {{issue.key}} and {{issue.description}}.
And, to be a bit more clear, you would use those smart values in the Create New Issue action when you are setting values of fields in the new issue you are creating.
