Automatic transition from Backlog to Open

Hi,

In one of our JIRA projects whenever we add an item to the sprint it is automatically moves to open status (it is a Kanban board).

In other project (using scrum board) we have to manually move the items from "Backlog" to "Open".

is it because of the board type  or am I missing something  ?

Check board configurations and see what status is set in first column.
