Automation: Issue Asignee if STATUS WAS ....

Hi, we are trying to set up an automation with ChatGPT and we think we are almost done. But there is a step missing:

What we did:

  1. Choose a trigger:
    • Click on "Issue transition".
    • Select the transition "Waiting For Rework" from the dropdown list.
  2. Add a condition:
    • Click on "Add new condition".
    • Choose "JQL expression".
    • Enter the following JQL expression: status WAS "In Development".
  3. Add an action:
    • Click on "Add new action".
    • Choose "Assign issue".
    • Select the option "User who last had the issue assigned in a specific status" and input "In Development" as the status.

This last step is not available in Jira. Do you have another idea?

We want to assign the developer who worked on this issue previously.

Hi @Sebastian Pechhold

I recommend not using bots to give you automation rule steps.  The bot will not base an answer on your specific site information/configuration, and unless you ask the question with all site info possible it may be for another version of Jira (or assume certain addon tools).

Instead consider quickly reviewing the automation how-tos and documentation, or example rules in the template library or community, to learn the basics, and then try writing your rules.

The option the bot suggests in step 3 for assignment to the previous assignee for a specific status is not a feature that exists in Jira Cloud automation.

When you want to assign to a previous assignee, one approach is to save that user in a custom field (e.g., named Assigned Developer) with a different rule, and then access that field as needed later.

Kind regards,
Bill
