Automation Question: Is there a rule for when an estimated task goes over its estimate?

John Rabal December 4, 2021

I am a Project Manager

My dev team estimates story points with the following metric 1 hour = 1 story point.

My company has the developers track time through Harvest (time tracking software) integration with Jira. This means each task has a field for clocking time within Jira, through Harvest.

Use Case / Requirement

I would like to know if it's possible to create an automation rule that will alert me, or flag the task if the time tracked for that task has gone over the estimated time.

ie:

Task Story points: 8 story points
Actual time tracked: 12 hours.
Send slack alert / flag task / Alert User, etc

Please let me know, any guidance / answer / similar use cases would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hey John -

you should be able to use Automation for Jira to easily handle this for you.

Set a condition to compare the story points value to actual time tracked.

Then set an action to send an email or a slack notification.
