Automation Rule Actor

Alex Burns May 21, 2025

Hi all, we have a project in Jira with multiple team members in which they use a rule to track their time on tasks etc. Currently when they submit their time it saves it as "Automation for Jira", but I want it to submit as the name of the person that has triggered that instance of the rule. How can I do this? TiA!

Hello @Alex Burns

Good day, Welcome to Atlassian Community !!

Try changing actor of your rule to "User who triggered the event".

Steps:

  1. Navigate to the automation list.

    • For project automations, go to Project settings > Automation. In a team-managed service project, navigate to Service project settings > Automation.

    • For global automations, access Jira home > Settings > System > Automation rules.

  2. Select the rule you wish to update.

  3. Under Actor, choose the option: "User who triggered the event."

Thanks, I was trying it on a project that I was the only person assigned to and couldn't see that option, but it is definitely works when more than 1 person is on the project.
